What do i install to stop xubuntu from doing this?

I have xubuntu on my laptop and whenever i go to add/remove most of the programs say something like
3D chess cannot be installed on your computer type (i386). Either the application requires special hardware features or the vendor decided not to support your computer type.

i have an ibm thinkpad
256 mb ram
15.6 mb space
xubuntu is using XFCE

do i switch to gnome or what?
or do i have to download something?

You need 3D chess compiled for your computer's architecture or you need another hardware if you really want _this_ 3D chess...
