Nejde nastavit správné rozlišení monitoru

Zdravím, po čisté instalaci Ubuntu 9.10 se vůbec nevytvořil xorg.conf, při pokusech o jeho vytvoření dojde buď k tomu, že Ubuntu se vůbec nespustí, nebo je v režimu 640x480, případně poslední varianta xorg.conf funguje úplně stejně jako když xorg.conf vůbec neexistuje. Bohužel nemůžu nastavit rozlišení 1024x768 což GPU i monitor zcela jistě umožňují (WinXP běželo bez problémů). Přikládám výpis hwinfo:

Jsem v Ubuntu a Linuxu začátečník, ale dost se mi líbí, proto prosím o pomoc jak donutit PC a monitor k vyššímu rozlišení. Díky.
