Need some help with UPC cable internet and Motorola SB5100E [vyřešeno]

Hi and sorry for the english, my czech is not very good...

I recently moved to Prague and I'm wondering why the internet connection is not working in Ubuntu 10.04. In the flat is UPC Cable 10/1 connection with Motorola SB5100E modem which is connected to my Asus laptop with RJ45 cable (usb is not used at all). In Windows 7 everything is working great, I have no problems but in Ubuntu the internet is not working at all? Why? Is there a something special in this system which windows can do and ubuntu cannot?

This is the situation in Ubuntu right now, it just doesn't get ip from anywhere. Thanks for help in advance!

Does your network card working? I don't have UPC internet, but I think you will have to set ip if you don't run DHCP on router.

UPC modem has some temporally lock for MAC address. From Windows with wmware it may see some virtual MAC instead of real HW MAC. Try switch off modem for a while when Ubuntu running and after some time try dhclient eth0 again.

Yes, you have to switch the modem off and on again when ubuntu is running, then everything should be fine. I have the same connection from UPC, but in other city, everything is working fine under ubuntu and also when the Motorola modem is connected to a WAN port of my TP-LINK router.
